Phonetography: Sunbeams

Sometimes you aren’t able to have a dslr or a point and shoot with you.  Sometimes you just forget them at home.  In times like these its always worth turning to your cell phone.  That is how this image was created.

The best camera is the one with you.

How I shot it

Camera:  HTC EVO 4G LTE (Smartphone)

When shooting with cell phones you generally don’t have as much control as you do with a point and shoot.  But when shooting into the sun the automatic compensation control will generally shoot at a low iso and fast shutter speed to compensate.  Which does not work well when shooting a person or landscape but works great when your subject is the sky.  Generally when your subject is the sky there is little to nothing you have to do except try to frame up well as I did here.

After I shot this I took it to my computer and edited in light room.  Yes a cell phone shot taken through light room.  Made a few adjustments to the contrast and exposure.  Added a slight vignette and called it good.
